Majority of Ukrainians back increased war tax – survey findings

A new survey by the International Republican Institute shows that 64% of Ukrainians are eager to shoulder a greater financial burden for the war effort.
Conducted from September 27 to October 1, 2024, it polled about 2,000 Ukrainians. According to its results, 64% of respondents support the latest increase of the military tax from 1.5% to 5%. Meanwhile, 32% are not excited about it , and remaining 5% remain undecided.
An overwhelming majority (88%) believe in Ukraine’s eventual victory in the war, while one in ten of Ukainians (10%) feel uncertain about the war outcome, and 3% have no clear answer for it.
When it comes to how long the war can last, 33% expect it to end within 1-2 years, 31% think it may end within a year. 1 in 5 Ukrainians are pretty sceptical- 11% predict it could last 3-4 years, and 9% say it may continue for five years or longer.
Most respondents also view President Volodymyr Zelensky as bearing the greatest responsibility for the outcome of the war
