The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allowed the expulsion of male students from universities for refusing to undergo basic military training.

‘Refusal of a male student who is fit for military service to undergo practical basic training is grounds for his expulsion from an educational institution in accordance with the legislation in the field of education,’ the resolution says.

The norm applies to those studying full-time or on dual education. According to the new rules, cadets of higher military educational institutions and other specialized educational institutions that train police officers and other specialized categories are required to undergo basic training. Women can voluntarily participate in this training.

The right to be exempted from this applies to persons who have already completed military service; citizens who, before acquiring Ukrainian citizenship, already had military experience in other countries; those who received a certificate of completion of basic military training and obtained a military specialty.
