Men with HIV or tuberculosis can be mobilized – Ukraine’s defense ministry

Ukraine’s defense ministry has confirmed that individuals who have diagnoses like HIV or tuberculosis may be mobilized for military service if their medical condition allows it.
In his comments for Ukraine’s state TV, ministry spokesperson Dmytro Lazutkin said that medicial exemptions are granted to those who can’t fully perform military duties. People diagnosed with immuned decompensation can’t be enlisted. On the other hand, asymptomatic HIV-positive individuals may be deemed fit for frontline service, mcuh like those with immune subcompensation who can serve in support roles, where the demands are less strenuous.
When it comes to tuberculosis, medical examptions are granted to individuals with active tuberculosis, especially those with bacterial shedding or lung tissue damage, said Lazutkin, adding that such individuals are moved from the enlistment registry to prevent any risk to health and operational effectiveness.
He also blamed military recruitment offices for the situations when they conscript people who are unfit for service. Such cases are a clear violation of Defense Ministry order No. 402, which defines all mobilization criteria. Responsibility .
