The political saga surrounding Ukrainian MP Mykola Tyshchenko took another turn on August 19, as the Pechersk District Court in Kyiv ordered to extend his house arrest until September 23. The embattled lawmaker now faces even tighter restrictions as his legal troubles deepen.

He must notify authorities of any change in residence, is also banned from “communicating with certain individuals specified by the court”. He has also been ordered to surrender his passport and is now required to wear an electronic monitoring device.

This latest development follows the court’s June 25 decision to place Tyshchenko under house arrest for 60 days, after the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, charged Tyshchenko with the “unlawful detention” of a former serviceman in Dnipro.

This development was another step in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, aimed at protecting key elements of the air defense system from debris damage.
