On January 1, Russian troops hit with an air strike the national heritage site ‘Kamianska Sich’, which is part of ‘Khortytsia’ National Reserve.

The site is the cemetery of the Ukrainian Cossacks of the first half of the 18th century.

‘Russia struck another blow at our heritage – it aimed Kamianska Sich. This once again proves that the Russian Federation is purposefully destroying our culture in order to erase Ukrainians as a nation. However, it will not succeed: Russia will not be able to avoid punishment for its crimes and will be responsible for them in international courts,’ said Ukraine’s culture minister Rostyslav Karandeev.

The minister added that Russian invaders have already attacked 120 sites of national heritage.

The employees of the Khortytsia National Reserve are documenting the consequences of the attack on a unique monument of the Cossack era.
