Ukrainians posting images of New Year postcards to cheer up people in Russian-occupied regions are going viral on social media. Dubbed a symbol of unity and hope, the thing started with a video by MUR musiciani who showed footage of Ukrainians celebrating New Year in the occupied regions.

It has soon gone a bit old-school as people flooded social media with photos of their handmade postcards showing clocks set to Kyiv time as a reminder that Ukraine and Russia have different time zones.

Others share images holding notes reading Celebrating with Ukraine near Christmas trees and landmarks in occupied cities across Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Crimea.

“We are deeply moved by the level of support, understanding, and love people are showing by participating in the ‘Celebrating on Ukrainian Time’ flash mob,” reads a statement from Zhovta Strichka resistance group that supported the idea. “It’s a reminder that those living under occupation matter. They are resisting and waiting for Ukraine to return.”
