Ukraine’s military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov has revealed that 11,000 North Korean infantry soldiers are currently undergoing training in Russia to join the war against Ukraine. The troops are expected to be ready for combat by November 1.

Budanov claimed that the first contingent of 2,600 soldiers will be deployed to the Kursk front, though it remains unclear what the rest will be tasked with. The North Korean soldiers will reportedly use Russian equipment and ammunition, marking a new phase in the conflict as North Korea steps in to reinforce Russia’s crippled military.

South Korea’s Ministry of Defense had earlier said that reports of North Korean military reinforcement for Russia were “highly likely,” with expectations of additional troops being sent to aid Moscow’s war efforts.
