A recent survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology reveals that 77% of Ukrainians have lost friends in the war with Russia while 1 in 5 respondents said they had lost a family member.
The survey also highlights a growing sense of pessimism about the war’s end. Just two years ago, only 7% of people thought the conflict would stretch beyond a year. Today, that number has soared to 43%, with many expecting the war to drag on for at least another year or more.
Specifically, 18% believe the fighting will continue for one to two years, 17% predict two to five years, and 8% fear it might last more than five years. Only 22% are hopeful for a resolution within the year.
Despite these challenges, a remarkable 93% of Ukrainians want to see their country as a “fully-fledged” democracy.
