A latest survey reveals that Telegram channels have become the top choice for news among Ukrainians, with over 40% preferring them over other pathways. The findings, shared by Sergiy Dembitsky, a sociologist and associate member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, show that only 16.6% of respondents follow the news on a state-run Telethon set up in the first days of Russia’s invasion.

Conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences, the survey found that 40.2% of Ukrainians look for news on Telegram and various YouTube channels.

Interestingly, more than half of the respondents (52%)  said that the Telethon’ war coverage and messaging  are often “unclear’, compared to other pathways where this figure varies from 25.5% to 36.6%.

Meanwhile, the media outlets like Pryamyi, 5 Kanal, and Espreso viewers have the strongest numbers  when it comes ‘confidence in victory’ -it stands at 49.7% . Telegram platforms, though, reflect a more mixed outlook, with only 25.9% of the platform users being “fully confident in victory” and 7.4% “completely unsure”.
