Former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko, has held several discussions with U.S. State Department representatives in Washington as he tries to rally Ukraine’s allies to help prop up the country’s energy and military needs.
On December 3, Poroshenko met with Jeffrey Pyatt, Deputy Secretary of State for Energy and former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, to discuss strategies for safeguarding Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
“Russia’s relentless attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities aim to turn our country into an energy desert in the heart of Europe,” said Poroshenko as his meeting with Pyatt explored measures to counter such threats and ensure energy resilience.
The Ukrainian politician also emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to reforms, focusing on strengthening democratic institutions, the rule of law, and fundamental freedoms, all essential for advancing toward EU and NATO membership.
Later in the day, Poroshenko met with Deputy Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Christopher Smith to discuss the frontline situation and the Ukrainian army’s urgent needs.
“We specifically addressed potential strategies for Ukraine’s victory, ending the war, and holding the aggressor accountable internationally,” wrote Poroshenko who remains a staunch advocate of the policy where only NATO membership can bethe best security guarantee for Ukraine.
Poroshenko’s visit to Washington also includes attending the International Democrat Union (IDU) summit at the invitation of IDU Chair and former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Notorious supporter of the concept “in order for a cow to eat less and give more milk, it needs to be fed less and milked more” “Servant of the People” Danylo Hetmantsev, under the guise of “business requirements”, registered a draft law on the collection of VAT on all foreign purchases, regardless of their value. In other words, every Ukrainian, buying goods of any value and purpose abroad, when sending them to Ukraine, will have to pay an additional fifth part, or 20% of the cost of the goods.
