Power restrictions for industry are temporary – Ukraine’s energy minister

Ukraine’s energy minister Herman Halushchenko insisted on Wednesday that the current power supply restrictions for industrial enterprises are temporary, resulting from unexpected issues at generation facilities. He also reminded that Ukraine’s grid operator chose not to cut power to households.
“There haven’t been any returns to blackouts. This is a temporary situation. Unfortunately, restored generation facilities can occasionally fail. This has happened, but all these issues will be resolved, and the situation will stabilize,” he stated.
The minister also pointed to a significant reduction in electricity imports to Ukraine, which are currently down to about 100 MW.
Halushchenko explained that a special policy has been developed for businesses, allowing companies to import up to 80% of their required electricity, with Ukraine supplying the remaining 20% to prevent outages. However, businesses have yet to take advantage of this option.
He urged the public to rely only on official sources, trying to play down rumors widespread power outages can soon hit households too.
