Pro-Russian hackers who created fake accounts of heads of Ukrainian special services were detained in Kyiv.

According to the SBU, the law enforcement liquidated bot farms that carried out information sabotage for the benefit of Russian intelligence. Two organizers were detained.

To spread disinformation about the war in Ukraine and to discredit the Defense Forces, the criminals created fake accounts in messengers and social networks. In particular, they created fake pages of the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence and the head of the SBU.

They also registered fake pages of Ukrainians from various regions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tik-Tok, as well as on the Russian Odnoklasniki and Vkontakte networks. The capacity of the bot farm allowed its organizers to generate more than 1,000 fake accounts every day.

The detainees coordinated their actions with representatives of Russian intelligence, from whom they received instructions for carrying out subversive activities. In this way, the enemy hoped to destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine and damage the image of the country in the international arena.

The SBU continues investigation into the case. The agents may face up to 7 years of imprisonment.
