Russia target substations with cluster munitions for 1st time in Aug.26 attack – Shmyhal

The August 26 attack marks the first time when the Russian troops used cluster munitions to target electrical distribution substations, according to Ukraine’s prime minister Denys Shmyhal.

During a panel discussion at the “Ukraine 2024. Independence” forum on Tuesday, the Ukranian PM revealed that in its earlier attacks targeting power substations Russia relied on drones as using missiles with cluster warheads allegedly was believed to be “economically impractical”.

The prime minister argues the initial attacks on the energy infrastructure made the government move to introduce enhanced protective measures for energy facilities against the drone attacks.

The tactic got noticed by Russian troops who now seem not to be bothered much with the finanical aspects of the attacks trying to hurt Ukraine’s power distribution substations.
