Russian-led saboteur caught in Vinnytsia- SBU

Ukraine’s Security Service said on Tuesday that they have detained a 22-year-old man accused of pipointing Russian attacks and committing arson in two Ukrainian regions.

The suspect, who worked as a barista in Vinnytsia, was recruited remotely by Russian military intelligence in October 2024.

An investigation found that he gathered intelligence on a thermal power plant in the Kyiv region, a target for planned missile and drone strikes by Russian forces.

He also tried to snoop on Ukrainian radar systems protecting the airspace over the Kyiv region.

In his hometown of Vinnytsia, he attempted to set fire to transformer substations to put railways out of action.

SBU counterintelligence teams caught him red-handed when he was trying to burn a transformer.

During searches, investigators found a mobile phone containing an anonymous messaging app, which he used to report his activities to his Russian handler.

The SBU has charged the detainee of treason under Article 111 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.

The suspect remains in custody and faces a potential life sentence with confiscation of property.
