Ukraine’s Security Service has detained a Russian agent in Kharkiv Oblast. The man had allegedly spied  on Ukrainian troops in the strategically important town of Kupiansk, gathering critical intelligence for the enemy.

A 23-year old native of the Chuhuiv district was on the radar of Russian intelligence after they found him post pro-Russian comments on Telegram channels.  After his recruitment, he used his bicycle rides in the frontline areas to quietly take on camera the locations and movements of Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The agent was also tasked with identifying railway routes used by Ukrainian military convoys transporting personnel, weapons, and ammunition to the frontlines. This intelligence was vital to Russian forces for planning combat operations and targeting Kharkiv Oblast with precision strikes.

Thee SBU’s counterintelligence raid caught him in the act as he was going to send “critical data to the enemy”. The operatives seized his mobile phone, which contained evidence of his illegal activities.

He now faces treason charges under Art.109, 111 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code. The suspect remains in custody without the possibility of bail. If convicted, he could face life imprisonment along with the confiscation of his property.
