Russia’s Sberbank to open branches in occupied Ukrainian regions

Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, announced its plans to open its offices in the occupied Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions by the end of 2024, according to a statement by Alexander Vedyakhin, the bank’s First Deputy Chairman.
The bank executive revealed that the bank had earlier establishe ‘partner branche’ in these regions as early as July 2024. Starting in December, Sberbank will open fully operational offices to serve clients, including businesses, with expanded financial services anticipated in the first quarter of 2025.
Russia seized parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson during the early months of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and later declared their annexation.
