Sweden to help Ukraine train women bus drivers

Ukraine’s Ministry of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development said on Friday it is joining forces with the UN Women Office in Ukraine and the Swedish goverment for a new project that will train women bus drivers.
Kyiv wants to address a critical shortage of bus drivers, which now stands at 30%, or roughly 6,000 bus jobs, across various regions. Project aims to ‘fill the gap’ as urban and municipal transport services are struggling to hire drivers after many men have been called up for military service.
Ukraine’s goverment sees the project as a chance to ‘fill the gap’ and ease and “meet the sector’s need”.
The pilot project will be implemented by the NGO “Institutional Development Foundation,” with financial backing from Sweden.
