Two Russian soldiers convicted in absentia after stealing $200K in jewelry in Izum

On Monday, a Ukrainian court found two Russian soldiers guilty of “war crimes committed during the occupation of Izum, Kharkiv region”. The men who repotedly served as grenadiers of the 91726 military unit were sentenced in absentia to 11 years in prison for stealing a safe loaded with nearly two kilograms of gold jewelry.

Investigation found that the burglars stuffed the safe into their vehicle and made a quick getaway. The store owner later said the damage amounted to 8 million hryvnas.

The clock on their prison terms will start ticking the moment they are actually detained.
