In an unusual move, Ukraine’s 53rd and 47th Separate Mechanized Brigades have openly called on soldiers who went AWOL (absent without leave) to come back to the frontlines. The brigades have pledged “full support and guidance” for those willing to rejoin their units.
“For every soldier who previously left their unit, the door remains open. We have one country, one mission, and victory is only possible if we stand together,” said the 53rd Brigade in the statement, encouraging servicemembers who are listed as AWOL with promises of support, no matter past decisions.
Echoing the call, the 47th Brigade admitted there could be the variety of personal reasons behind soldiers’ decisions to be absent from duty. They emphasized a readiness to help them “reintegrate with consultation and personal guidance”.
“Some grew tired or missed home; others couldn’t find their footing in their units,” the 47th Brigade said. “We’re here to offer modern, fair conditions and a chance to serve again with pride. Every fighter deserves the opportunity to step back into the ranks and fulfill their potential.”
