On December 14, Ukraine commemorates fire fighters and other emergency employees who eliminated the consequences of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster.

After the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the evacuation of people began. By the end of the summer of 1986, more than 90,000 people were evacuated. The then Soviet authorities promised that the evacuation would be temporary, but almost 10,000 people left their homes forever.

Almost 600,000 people took part in the elimination of the consequences of the accident. More than 1,000 people who worked in the first days after the explosion received the maximum level of radiation.

In the first months after the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, 31 people died from acute radiation sickness, and approximately 165,000 people got disabled.

The statement says that the mistakes of the Soviet authorities led to the millions of broken lives and Russia continues to terrorize Ukraine now.
