On Thusday, Ukraine’s newest Ada-class corvette, the Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky was launched from RMK Marine shipyard in Istanbul, Turkey . The launch ceremony was attended by high-ranking Ukrainian officials, including defense minister Rustem Umerov, Navy commander Oleksiy Neizhpapa, and First Lady Olena Zelenska.

This event marks a critical step for Ukraine’s Navy as it seeks to re-establish its presence in the Black Sea after the  Russian invasion of 2022 .  Equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry, the Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky, along with its sister ship Hetman Ivan Mazepa, had to be built in Turkey for obvious reasons.  The corvettes are set to enhance Ukraine’s maritime defense capabilities.

In his speech, Minister Umerov expressed gratitude to Turkey for its support during these challenging times for Ukraine.

“Ukraine has already disrupted the dominance of the Russian fleet at sea, destroying dozens of vessels. We are actively expanding the capabilities of the Ukrainian Navy in the Black and Azov Seas,” emphasized Umerov.
