Ukraine restores critical notarial registries after Russian cyberattack

On Monday, Ukraine’s justice ministry said it three critical notarial registries are up and running again after they were taken down by a large-scale cyberattack allegedly launched by Russia. The restored systems include the Unified Registry of Powers of Attorney, the Inheritance Registry, and the Unified Registry of Special Notarial Document Forms. It took the Ukrainian IT specilists about two weeks to restore their work.
With the registries back online, notaries can now operate as usual, registering powers of attorney, wills, inheritance cases, and verifying special document forms. The Ministry confirmed that all notarial actions completed during the downtime will be entered into the system within five working days.
To bolster defenses against future threats, the justice ministry said it has serioulsy stepped up cybersecurity measures in response to the attack.
