Ukraine starts negotiations with Italy on security guarantees

On November 28, Ukraine began the first round of consultations with Italy regarding a bilateral agreement on security guarantees, as provided for in the G7 Joint Declaration on Security Support.
Ukraine has already started bilateral consultations with all G7 countries, including Italy.
Italy will chair the G7 next year.
During the negotiations, the representatives of Italy and Ukraine discussed approaches to the content and format of the future bilateral agreement, as well as agreed on a schedule for further communication.
‘Italy’s provision of security guarantees to Ukraine will be an important step towards our country’s membership in the EU and NATO,’ said President’s official Ihor Zhovkva.
On July 12, at the NATO summit in Vilnius, the G7 countries agreed on a joint declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine. The document emphasizes that the leaders reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the strategic goal of maintaining a free, independent, democratic and sovereign Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, capable of defending itself and deterring future aggression.

On October 6, the Administrative Cassation Court within the Supreme Court of Ukraine continued hearing case No. 990/80/25, in which the fifth President and leader of the party “European Solidarity”, Petro Poroshenko, seeks to have Presidential Decree No. 81/2025 from February 12, 2025 — enacting sanctions by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) — declared illegal and annulled. The plaintiff claims the document was falsified and that the sanctions are a tool of political persecution of the opposition, contrary to international norms. Rinat Akhmetov’s Metinvest Group has completed the construction of an upgraded underground NATO Role 2 hospital in one of the hottest sectors of the frontline. This is the second stabilization point established under the Steel Front initiative in cooperation with the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
