Ukraine’s chief commander comments impact of Kursk raid on Pokrovsk front situation
In his speech at “Ukraine 2024 Independence” forum on Tuesday, Ukraine’s chief commander Oleksandr Syrskyi opened up on Ukraine’s true motives behind the raid in Russia’s Kursk region.
The general admitted that the primary objective of the Kursk incursion was to divert Russian troops from other areas of the front, particularly from the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove areas where Ukraine is dealing with the most intense pressure.
The Russian troops though didn’t take the bait and are still pushing to Pokrovsk using their “most capable” units there.
Accroding to reports, some 30,000 Russian troops have been deployed to bolster their defenses in the Kursk region with thet continues to grow.
“Our soldiers are fully committed to ensuring the safety of civilians. Intense fighting continues daily in this area, which is a focal point for us. We are concentrating our main forces and resources here to protect our civilian population,” stressed the commander-in-chief.

On October 6, the Administrative Cassation Court within the Supreme Court of Ukraine continued hearing case No. 990/80/25, in which the fifth President and leader of the party “European Solidarity”, Petro Poroshenko, seeks to have Presidential Decree No. 81/2025 from February 12, 2025 — enacting sanctions by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) — declared illegal and annulled. The plaintiff claims the document was falsified and that the sanctions are a tool of political persecution of the opposition, contrary to international norms. Government representatives deny the allegations and insist their actions were lawful. Journalists of Bukvy were present at the hearing.
Rinat Akhmetov’s Metinvest Group has completed the construction of an upgraded underground NATO Role 2 hospital in one of the hottest sectors of the frontline. This is the second stabilization point established under the Steel Front initiative in cooperation with the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
