On Wednesday, Ukraine’s government issued a directive to fast-track applications for a combat veteran status. It will allow Ukrainian servicemen register and confirm it online.

According to MP Oleksiy Honcharenko, the Veterans Affairs Ministry has 4 months to update its registry system to support this changes.

Most servicemen with wartime service are granted such statust automatically  based on data confirming their service in “critical defense tasks during martial law”.

Volunteers, who are now part of territorial defense units,  will deal with equally straightforward procedures. Automatic confirmation will be based on information such as:

  • The military unit of the Territorial Defense Forces they are linked with
  • The specific name of their territorial defense unit
  • The time and place they carried out combat missions
  • Details from the command order placing them into action

This latest update will help those fighting on the frontlines to avoid long waits or paperwork.
