Ukraine’s key energy company to restore 60-70% of its power generation by October

Ukraine’s major energy company DTEK said on Tuesday it plans to restore 60-70% of its power generation capacity by October. The energy supplier, which produces 20% of Ukraine’s electric output, was hit hard by barrages of Russian missile attacks in March.
In his interview for NV, DTEK’s CEO, Dmytro Sakharuk complained the company has limited funding for “repair work and materials,” which currently account for almost 70% of the restoration costs. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s partners are primarily sending equipment to help get the power stations up and running.
“We are currently talking about restoring roofs and walls at our power stations. None of our stations have roofs or walls left. Even if we manage to restore some equipment, it won’t function properly in low temperatures,” Sakharuk added.
Getting proper roofs for the energy stations is a pressing issue. “When it rains, there are short circuits, and the equipment shuts down. Without a roof, the station cannot function normally,” explained Sakharuk.
Despite these challenges, DTEK is confident it will be able to restore 60-70% of its generation capacity by October, provided there are no new attacks. “Some generation capacity is gradually coming back online,” said the CEO.
