The early hours of Thursday saw another wave of Russian drones and missiles targeting Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the assault started at 7:30 pm on October 16 and lasted until 5:00 am the next day.

The enemy fired a guided X-59 air-to-surface missile from the Kursk region while 56 drones of various types came from Kursk, Oryol, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

Ukrainian air defenses shot down 22 drones, while electronic warfare (EW) systems disrupted 27 more, rendering them ineffective. Two drones headed towards Belarus. Unfortunately, five drones hit infrastructure sites in front-line regions.

To repel the attack, Ukraine deployed a combination of aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, EW units, and mobile fire groups from both the Air Force and the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Drone interceptions took place across Sumy, Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Odesa, and Ternopil regions.
