The first ‘Ukrainian bookshelf’ in Latin America has been opened in the public library in the Mexican city of Guadalajara.

The opening took place during the Guadalajara Book Fair, an important cultural event for the entire Spanish-speaking world. Ukraine is participating in the event within the framework of the European Union stand along with 27 member states.

First Lady Olena Zelenska presented Ukraine at the fair. She addressed the participants with a speech and called on Latin American readers to learn about the war that Ukraine is currently waging against the Russian invasion.

During the speech, Olena Zelenska told the audience about Victoria Amelina, who was supposed to represent Ukraine at the fair this year.

This summer, Victoria went to Kramatorsk near the frontline with a group of Colombian journalists and writers to show them the consequences of the war. Victoria died and Colombian journalists were wounded when a Russian missile hit the pizzeria where they were having launch.

‘Ukrainian bookshelf’ is a project supported by Olena Zelenska. It aims to popularize Ukrainian literature and now operates in 44 countries of the world.
