Former Ukrainian MP Viktor Medvedchuk of pro-Russian “Opposition Platform – For Life” party  has penned a letter to U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, alleging a Ukrainian “connection” in his assassination attempt.

The excerpts of his letter were made public by  Russian state news agency TASS.

Medvedchuk claims Trump was targeted after the former president attempted to broker peace in Ukraine.

“But this peace [settlement] means the downfall of the Nazi regime of Zelensky and his American handlers in the Biden administration,” Medvedchuk wrote.

The letter also hints that Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky sees Trump as his ‘personal adversary”.

“This scoundrel will stop at nothing to prevent you from winning the presidential election… I believe there will be evidence of a Ukrainian trail in the assassination attempt against you,” said Medvedchuk who is now residing in Russia after he was arrested in an escape attempt and later exchanged in a prisoner swap that helped return to Ukraine some “Azov” soldiers.

The letter drew a wry response from Ukrainian officials. Andriy Kovalenko, who leads Center for Countering Disinformation, said, “It’s hard to find a more incompetent person[for an ally than Medvedchuk], but Putin managed to do so.”
