Ukraine’s prime minister Denys Shmyhal said on Tuesday the new school year will begin on  September 2, 2024, and finish on June 30, 2025.

“Local administrations will need to organize the school year based on the security situation in their respective regions,” stressed the prime minister.

Earlier this month, Ukraine’s education ministry recommended that higher education institutions, including universities, colleges, and vocational schools, start their academic year in August.  Its guidelines also said that classes can be held ‘during the warmer months’  if energy supply issues and power outages get worse.

It is worth noting that Lviv officials decided to start the school year on August 19 with  local schools becoming  24/7 “resilience points,” offering warmth and charging facilities for residents in case of long power outages.
