Ukrainian MP bitterly reacts to goverment policy on WW2 exhumations

Ukrainian opposition MP Volodymyr Viatrovych has criticized the government’s ‘one-sided’ policy allowing Poland to conduct exhumations of victims who died in the WW2 Volyn tragedy, while failing to do the same justice to Ukrainian victims buried in Poland.

Viatrovych admitted that there is positive dynamics where Kyiv and Warsaw are trying to address past grievances. historical issues. However, the current approach seems to impose “unilateral” obligations on Ukraine, which has granted Poland unrestricted access to conduct search and exhumation work on Ukrainian territory.

“There is not a single word about honoring Ukrainians and their burial sites in Poland. Are Ukrainian graves meant to remain desecrated ‘in the name of universal values and in a Christian spirit?’” the lawmaker said in his post on social media.

His bitter reaction comes after a joint statement by the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Poland affirming that Ukraine would not obstruct Poland’s efforts to locate and exhume victims of the Volyn tragedy.
