Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist vows to donate prize money to Ukrainian army

Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslav Mahuchikh, who clinched gold at the Paris Olympics jumping 2.00 meters, has announced on Thusday that she will be donating a portion of her prize money to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Mahuchikh, who earlier this year broke a 37-year-old world record soaring to 2.10, shared her plans to allocate part of her Olympic prize money to her team and volunteers. “Firstly, I have a team that I need to support because we work together. I’ll also be giving part of my prize to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and to volunteers, as they are in great need of support and their efforts are, unfortunately, not closing as quickly as we would hope,” said the athlete who has to train far from her home town Dnipro that often deals with Russian air strikes.
