The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has put on the back burner the plans to mobilize  men under 25 if they are considered partially fit during martial law. However, a formal provision for the demobilization of such individuals has not yet been approved.

The policy update, supported by 311 MPs, stipulates that men under 25, who have not undergone military service or training in military departments and are classified as “partially fit,” will no longer be mobilized until their status is reviewed.

According to MP Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, the national security committee dropped the demobilization clause from the bill at the request from Ukraine’s General Staff, which is supposed to come with some more tweaks to the law.

Senior lawmaker Vasyl Mokan said that demobilization of this category of servicemen is still on the table though it can take ‘several months’ before it can be adopted.

The “partially fit” status assumes that a person is unfit for conscription during peacetime due to health conditions but can be called up during martial law.
