Ukraine’s military command has ‘green-lit’ the withdrawal of the garrison from sieged Vuhledar, Donetsk region, arguing it was needed to “preserve personnel and equipment while positioning for more favorable future actions”.
“After suffering heavy losses in prolonged battles, the enemy has not given up its attempts to capture Vuhledar. By deploying reserves to launch flanking attacks, Russian forces have strained Ukrainian defenses, creating a threat of encirclement,” stated the “Khortytsia” Operational Group.
Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said on Tuesday Russian forces captured Vuhledar after it faced 2.5 years of assaults.
The story was initially dismissed by Ukraine’s 2nd Separate Mechanized Brigade whose representatives claimed it was still in control of “parts of Vuhledar”, after it was overrun by storming Russian troops.
