On May 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of Belgium Alexander De Croo signed a bilateral security agreement.
As part of the agreement, this year Belgium will allocate at least 977 million euros of military aid to Ukraine and will provide support for ten years.
In particular, Belgium guarantees timely security assistance to Ukraine, military equipment and weapons, and assistance in military training.
According to the document, 30 F-16 fighter jets will be provided to Ukraine by 2028, and the first aircraft will be handed over this year.
The agreement also states bilateral cooperation in the defense industry, support for the peace formula, Ukraine’s future membership in the EU and NATO, strengthening of sanctions, compensation for damages by Russia, etc.
Belgium is the 11th country that concluded a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine to implement the provisions of the G7 Joint Declaration adopted in Vilnius on July 12 last year. In total, 32 states have already joined the declaration. Before that, Ukraine signed bilateral agreements with Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, and Spain.
