During the meeting, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko discussed with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi the issues of nuclear safety and ensuring the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
The meeting took place in Vienna, where the Ukrainian minister is participating in the meeting of the IAEA Board.
Herman Halushchenko informed the head of the agency about the situation in the Ukrainian energy system, which has become much more complicated after Russia’s renewed massive attacks on energy infrastructure facilities.
The minister emphasized that the Russian Federation is targeting thermal and hydroelectric power plants, transformer stations and power transmission lines.
The minister reminded that in November 2022, during Russian attacks, there was a blackout of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. In this context, the parties discussed the need to coordinate efforts to prevent the recurrence of such a situation.
Herman Halushchenko also informed Raphael Grossi about the active work on the construction of units 3 and 4 at the Khmelnytskyi NPP.
