On Friday, Ukraine’s Security Service has detained a Russian spy in Donetsk region. The arrested 40-year old resident of Pokrovsk – he is one of ten men arrested in the area in recent months, was part of a spy ring exposed earlier this August.

The suspect was gathering intelligence on Ukrainian military positions around Pokorovsk and Myrnohrad, snooping around targeting fortified areas, artillery positions, and military convoy routes.  Russian troops used his intelligence in attacks targeting this key transport hub.

Recruited by Russian FSB handlers, the man covertly traveled around the front-line areas and filmed the positions of Ukrainian forces. The SBU operatives arrested the spy and seized his equipment, which contained incriminating evidence of his espionage

The suspect is currently in custody and has been charged with treason, a crime that carries a potential life sentence and confiscation of property.
