On Wednesday, the Verkhovna Rada axed the policy update that could introduce a salary hike for Ukrainian prosecutors. The vote saw 242 MPs voted to cancel Amendment No. 155, which could increase the funds for this measure in 2025. The plan got a strong public outrcy in the light of the recent corruption schemes in Khmelnytskyi prosecutor’s office.
According to MP Oleksiy Honcharenko, the only vote against the cancellation came from “Servant of the People” party MP Maksym Pavlyuk.
“Pavlyuk from ‘Servant of the People’ voted to raise prosecutor salaries. The lone hero. This is the same Pavlyuk who declared lottery winnings five years in a row. A lucky guy!” Honcharenko said in his sarcastic remark on social media.
Earlier this week, the Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada has blocked amendments to the 2025 budget, which planned to cancel posecutor salary increases. as it could cost some 3 billion hryvnias.
