Ukraine to release children’s comics about Stepan Bandera

Plans are underway in Ukraine to publish children’s comics about Stepan Bandera to raise awareness of his role for Ukraine in an engaging and entertaining way. The news came from Ukraine’s opposition lawmaker and former director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Volodymyr Viatrovych.

“The Vivat publishing house is about to put out a comic book about Stepan Bandera. Meanwhile, the Bohdan publishing house is working on his biography,” said Viatrovych.

He claimed that such projects aim are not about drawing a positive potrayal of Bandera but rather about education and offering insights into the historical context of his actions. “This is an excellent way to show why he became a hero for many Ukrainians and why he was even immortalized in songs,” he added.

According to Viatrovych, these comics and biographies are a very effecient medium helping to “popularize historical figures and make Ukrainian history more relatable to our younger generation”.
