Ukraine has established contact with Syria’s new government, aiming to restore diplomatic relations, said the country’s foreign ministry on Friday, adding it hopes Syria will now reconsider its previous stance on the war in Ukraine, which can help mend fences and renew the ties between the countries.
MFA spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi stated, “We are ready to restore diplomatic relations with Syria, depending on the new government’s actions. The previous Assad regime did not recognize Ukraine’s territorial integrity, which made us sever the relations. If this policy changes, we are open to reestablishing diplomatic ties.”
Tykhyi confirmed that Ukraine has already initiated contact with Syria’s new authorities, including at the foreign minister level.
