Situation at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant worsens every day, – Ukraine’s energy minister

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Halushchenko, during a working trip to Zaporizhzhia region, stated that the situation at the nuclear plant is getting worse every day.

He stressed that the experts of the IAEA noted the deterioration of the situation at the occupied facility.

‘Recently, there was a statement by the IAEA that inspectors were not allowed into the reactor premises. This means that Russians are hiding the real state of affairs. We know it: it is equipment degradation. The plant has been out of service since September 2022, and the complex equipment of the nuclear power plant must work continuously. However, work to support it is not carried out, and this leads to degradation,’ the minister explained.

Halushchenko said that the representatives of Rosatom, who are at the occupied facility, are criminals according to the norms of the international law and will definitely bear responsibility for this.

He also noted that after de-occupation, a huge amount of work will be required to return to operation at least one of the six power units of the ZNPP.
