Defense ministry suspends the head of the department due to suspicion

The head of one of the departments was suspended from his position in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The reason was the suspicion notification received by him on January 27.
The ministry noted that by the decision of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov dated February 1, 2024, Toomas Nakhkur, acting director of the Department of Military-Technical Policy, Development of Weapons and Military Equipment of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, was suspended from his duties.
The reason for suspension is the announcement of suspicion in criminal proceedings.
In January, the Security Service with the assistance of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine exposed a scheme of embezzlement of state funds during the purchase of ammunition.
According to the investigation, former and current high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and heads of affiliated companies are involved in the crime.
Criminals tried to steal almost 1.5 billion budget hryvnias for the purchase of 100,000 mortar rounds for the Armed Forces.
Rinat Akhmetov’s Metinvest Group has completed the construction of an upgraded underground NATO Role 2 hospital in one of the hottest sectors of the frontline. This is the second stabilization point established under the Steel Front initiative in cooperation with the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
