The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested a Russian agent who infiltrated the Ukrainian Armed Forces to help pinpoint Russian attacks after he was recruited by FSB operatives on Telegram.

The story appears to be rather common. A 30-year-old Odesa resident was caught after he agreed to spy on his military unit after he was offered easy money  on the odd jobs Telegram channel. .  The man joined a Ukrainian military unit in August 2024,  under the orders of his Russian contact.

The SBU tracked down the spy and arrested him when he was preparing to send secret coordinates to Russia.

According to investigation, his Russian handlers were interested in the locations of training centers and air defense units. The agent had been instructed to leave the area before the possible attack to continue his sabotage activities .

During searches, authorities found a mobile phone containing evidence of his links with Russia’s FSB.

The man now faces treason charges under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He remains in custody and could face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
