Metropolitan Epifanii, the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, held a Christmas service in Kyiv St. Sofia Cathedral.

On September 1, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church switched to the New Julian calendar.

This calendar is used by most Orthodox churches, including the Constantinople Patriarchate.

This has been the first time that Ukraine officially celebrated Christmas on December 25.
