Massive draft evasion scheme uncovered in Dnipro
Source: SBU
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) have dismantled a large-scale draft evasion scheme in Dnipro involving military officials, healthcare workers, and civilians.
The suspects fabricated medical records of severe medical conditions to pronounce draft-dodgers unfit for service. The records were later rubber- by their accomplices in Territorial Recruitment Centers (TCCs), which granted the ‘clients’ medical exemptions and deferments.
The cost for these illicit “services” started at $12,000 per person.
The criminal ring included recruitment center employees, military personnel, and doctors who produce and sell fake exemptions. Their civilian accomplices acted as intermediaries who looked for clients and handled money matters.
Those involved in the scheme now face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
