Ukrainian senior MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak offered a scathing judgement on the latest reshuffle of the Ukrainian goverment, calling the changes a mere “technical substitution”.

In his comments for Espresso, the lawmaker was sceptical: “I sincerely advise you not to look for logic in what is happening or will happen in our[governmental] personnel policy. It simply doesn’t exist.” He also cited Ukrainska Pravda publication.  “First, they wanted to appoint someone. Then, they wanted to at least appoint anyone. Then, they appointed whoever they could get hold of.” Zheleznyak argued it was the accurate assessment of Ukraine’s political scene.

Basically, individuals in the executive branch are “swapped out for others who, in essence, are no different”, argued the lawmaker, voicing his doubts the rejig can prompt any ‘real changes’.

He also pointed out that ‘Servant of the People’ faction now has no majority of votes to have their ministers approved by the parliament. He shared a ranking of ministers based on how many votes they received showing the foreign minister Sibiha had received 258 votes, while other ministers hovered in the 240–250 range.

In Zheleznyak’s words, this lack of full support from the coalition speaks volumes about the current political landscape in Ukraine.
