The Office of the Prosecutor General has launched an investigation into the reported execution of two unarmed Ukrainian servicemen, allegedly carried out by Russian forces in Kursk region.

Ukrainian authorities said they have launched a pre-trial investigation into violations of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder  under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigation came in response to a harrowing video that emerged on social media on Monday.  The video captures the moment Russian soldiers execute two unarmed Ukrainian POWs at the Kursk front.

The Office of the Prosecutor General stressed that the intentional killing of prisoners of war constitutes a severe violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a grave international crime.

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets confirmed that Russian forces executed an unarmed and likely wounded Ukrainian soldier, adding weight to mounting evidence. Ukrainian law enforcement earlier said they had evidence of the cases where Russian forces executed at least 102 Ukrainian POWs on the battlefield.
